I want to replace a broken incoming brass stopcock. The incoming pipe is black plastic, rather than the new Blue, but would the Black be the same size ie 25mm. If so I will get a conversion fitting - plastic to copper (25-15mm)

Sounds like alkethene pipe to me.....most used in the seventies when copper was in short supply. I would use a universal coupler (philmac) to take you from this to copper then fit your new stoptap......you need inserts for the alkethene.....and they are in imperial sizes usually. Take a small peice with you when you get your coupler

Thanks for that. I think the property was late seventies, or very early eighties., but will take your advice.
