Got an Indesit DIS 04 that is tripping the RCD. The trouble is, it is only sporadic. Could go weeks and weeks without doing it, then it will do it 3 or 4 times on the trot, then fine.

Usually occurs around about an hour or so into the wash cycle.

Nothing obvious, no damage to power cable or plug. However when putting mufti meter between the earth and neutral on the plug I get a reading of approx 4 meg ohms. Is this normal? Any suggestions, ideas?

Thanks in advance

A multimeter isn't the right instrument to measure insulation resistance as it only puts out a few volts. To determine IR values correctly you would need a 500v DC megger. That said; have you checked for signs of leakage on the baseplate? The RCD trip may be caused by dampness from a slow or sporadic leak (on/around any electrical component), or a failing heater element, bad suppressor, chaffed wiring, etc, etc....
