Indesit washing machine spin problem

My indesit machine is about 7 years old now, and recently it has developed a spin problem. It spins, but tries to spin faster but then can't so spins slow, then it tries to spin fast again but can't and so it goes on. So it kind of goes fast/slow/fast/slow it sounds like it is knackered somehow?

Any ideas? Is it time to send it to the big utility room in the sky?

It probably needs a new motor which would be quite expensive but there is one thing you could check. On the back end of the motor there is a small coil which surrounds a magnet that turns with the motor shaft. Check that this magnet is not broken or loose on the motor shaft.
