I’m surprised the resident Europhiles on the forum haven’t pounced on this breaking news. They must still be in bed ….

Rishi just cancelled his very important meeting with XI Jinping after hearing the latest UK economy figures. His wealth has just diminished by another couple of million, bless.

Even the dumbest of brexiteers must realise by now the damage they've caused...

But will they admit it?

Of course not, because to do that they will have to acknowledge their total mistake...

'Project fear' becomes more real every day!

dam shame we were not still in the EU
At last you’ve said something sensible.

EU membership would mean no trade barriers with our nearest and biggest trade partner.

and we would have the benefit of Labour to fuel our economy.

BTW Germanys inflation rate makes no difference whether we are an EU member or not

I’m more concerned about Sunak and Hunt imposing Austerity 2.0 on us.

Austerity 1.0 led to massive increases in pay and wealth at the top.

So it’s not surprising Hunt and Sunak both multi millionaires want some more of that action to make them even richer.

Austerity? I'm a firm believer in not spending beyond your means, but the only way out of a recession is the only way that's ever worked before.

Our inflation is being partly driven by Brexit and it would be lower if we were still in EU. Reason is we now have 500,000 fewer workers than before the pandemic. As a result wages are rising by 5%. If we had access to all the hard working, reliable EU workers who picked our fruit and worked as nurses, etc, etc - there wouldn't be such upward pressure on wages which fuels inflation. So rather than saying we have similar inflation rates to other EU countries, it would be more honest to say they would be lower if we hadn't jumped ship.

But the EU with all those extra hard working reliable workers back in their respective countries had inflation running at 10.9% in September while the U.K. was 9.9% in the same period. Shouldn’t those figures be the other way around if inflation is due to the availability of hard working reliable workers?

Maybe their inflation isn't being driven by wages growth. There are lots of factors to inflation. We have a dire shortage of people who want to do many menial jobs. Some countries like Germany may even be looking to shed workers.

Perhaps you’ve not noticed there is a war in Europe.
