Give it all to charity would you?If I had received any inheritance or gift, I wouldn't see that as being in any way attributable to "my success".

For god sake. How on earth can you pick a negative on something as positive as being left a gift.If I had received any inheritance or gift, I wouldn't see that as being in any way attributable to "my success".
My wife and I both pay well into, we have for a while.I'm paying well into that bracket, and that is on salary.

He’s just avoiding giving me a proper answer. For god sake. How on earth can you pick a negative on something as positive as being left a gift.
But if your parents left you 2 million, you’d be happy to give away at least 400k ?I wouldn't claim it to be down to my success or graft.
I already have standing orders to a number of charities - underprivileged students at my old uni, if you must know, being one - so I give to charity from my earned-and-taxed income already.
You seem to be avoiding a straight answer. Is IHT at 40% acceptable ?

And when you pass it on, even more gets taxed. Ok
It’s not the same though is it.I honestly haven't given it much thought, and I won't.
But, given what I have previously posted re: "success", I would say that yes, it is acceptable.
Unless you think that money you got through no effort should be taxed at a lower rate than money that you grafted for.
Ok.I'd still have over £1.5 million, so that would not be a hardship.

But I know where you stand.
I imagine it would be different if you had a large IHT bill looming

I'm the same, my uncle gave me 5k years ago, I bought a car, I had a sign put on top saying I didn't buy this car.....I felt much better.I wouldn't claim it to be down to my success or graft.
