i have just replacd my attic cistern ballcock, float valve

The inlet is a copper 90 degree pipe with a nut that pulls against a circular shoulder ring. I believe it's called a bent tap connector. This pipe goes into the threaded part of the ballcock inlet and the nut tightened, When I took it off there
is no sign of a washer or similar - the joint was 'sealed' only with white tape with the circular shoulder up against the chamfer inside the threaded part.

I removed the original tape and applied new but I cannot get a 100% water tight seal. Can anyone advise whether there should be a washer in this assembly? should I just tighten further (easiest option) apply more tape and retighten or replace with something else.

The tank already has an inline isolation valve so disconnecting is straight forward
Thanks
Kevin

Thanks

If I use one of these washers I guess I don't need any tape at all?

The fibre washer swells when it's been wetted so you might have to give the backnut an extra nip up when you've test flushed several times. Buy a few of them as they are usually not reuseable and it's handy to have a few spares for future use!
