We are wanting to have an inset gas fire fitted and need to get a builder to build up the fireplace to the right size hole - but before he does that we need to know whether a gas engineer will definately be able to re-route the gas pipe from the outside of the fireplace wall where it currently is - through the chimney breast so that it is in the right place for the inset fire When we spoke to the bloke at the fire shop he seemed to think that they werent able to run gas pipes through the internal chimney breast wall anymore - meaning we wont be able to have an inset fire and therefore dont want the builder to brick the hole up just yet. Cant get hold of any local corgi gas fitters until monday to ask them so though would try here in the meantime - does anyone know whether they will definately be able to drill from the outside of the chimney breast in the living room to behind the fire???

appreciate a speedy response from anybody so that can get builder to do whats necessary asap

No reason at all why you cant run the pipe through the chimney breast providing the pipe is sleeved and sealed
