I'm planning to build an inspection Pit inside of my garage. I've alraedy had it checked it and there won't be any problems with foundations, etc.

What my question is what precautions should I make before starting work, the pits only going to 1 metre deep.

Any suggetions would really help

Ventilation for one, CO2 for instance is denser than air, and will fill the pit up in a similar way to water. Another similarity with water is that we unfortunate humans will effectively "drown" in a CO2 atmosphere. The other concern I'd have is that the walls of the pit don't collapse.

I was contemplating this a few years ago, but then a friend warned me, that I would have no privacy. Friends and relatives would constantly asking to borrow the pit. I though this waa wise advice, so did not do it.

If the pits only going to be a metre deep you are gonna be on your knees to do any work on a car, unless you are only 3ft tall of course.

I used to have a pit like this - you lie in it, not kneel. They're great!

However, I didn't build it so I don't know what the pitfalls (!) might be.
