Installing a staircase

I have a project starting soon and a requirement to install a flight of stairs. I have spoken to stairplan.com who are looking like a strong candidate to supply the staircase (Other suggestions welcome)

My question is:-

The stairs will have supporting walls on 3 sides. How difficult is it to install? The builder that is building the blockwall and trimming the joists has said it's a specialist job for a joiner. The stairs are completely assembled at the manufactures and divided into sections for transportation.

Stairplan have told me the stairs will be accurate to the millimeter as they are all CNC machined so surely It's just a case of assembling them and attaching them to the walls?

Depending on the manufacter, I used to make approximately 48 stairscases a week and sometime we leave the string and newal post untouch for the carpenter to cut the joints out on site. If all the joints are cuts and slotted ready then I can't really see a problem but I will say it's depends on your capability. You may have to drill a couple of hole slighty off-set for the tenons to pull in tight in the newal post with the dowel rod.

A spiral stairs kits are a lot easier

According to the chap I spoke to, they assemble all their staircases to ensure they will fit together on-site. I will certainly double check that all the joints and slots are cut on the one they send me. As for my capabilities well i'd say a pretty competent DIYer ... I've installed kitchens and bathrooms in my properties but for me it's comes down to a costing issue ... how long would it take for a professional to install a double winding staircase in an empty property with solid 9" walls on 3 sides?

It's a pretty nice staircase Monsoon but, just appears like it could be a bit light weight. You can't beat old well made solid stairs . I would be scared of my foot slipping through . But, I wish you luck with the assembly.

That support pole looks as thin as a toothpick by the way lol. Really, I wish you luck with this. What's the pricing of this staircase?

Okay, if the picture of the stairs is how it will be delivered, then shouldn't take long to do, maybe a morning work for me. The hardest part I would say is to work out the length to cut on the longest newel post for level of the stairs of the floor level, so you may have to use timber packing such as plywood under the newal post to get this right if you under cut it, if so, then just cover it with skirting round it or carpet may hide the gap. The other straight forward cut a section of the top riser/thead trimmer, practice on another a piece of post for a pattern etc

I dont think the 'toothpick' prop is part of the overall structure, just there while its freestanding

Once that section is bolted onto the wall and the newal post secured it wont be going anywhere in a hurry.

hi , you will probably find that the newel posts are cut already to length , all the donkey work has been done in the workshop , so its just a case of assembly on site and fixing ...
