Installing an l-shaped steel lintel for a side garage door

I'm in the process of planning cutting and installing a new a side garage door, single skin, opening approx. 700mm wide

For the lintel, I'm looking at l-shaped steel. To install this, do I just chase out the mortar above the proposed opening, slide the intel in place and make good with fresh mortar?
