I realise this may be in the wrong section, and should possibly be in the tiling thread, but it seems more relevant here so any help would be appreciated.
I am currently in the process of installing a new shower in a recess. Space is tight as it is only 760 wide without the tiles on. I plan to do the work in the following way.
1. Remove tiles
2. Remove shower base
3. Remove plaster back to brick on 2 sides and block on one side.
4. Wire brush then vacum ( ) the wall to remove dust
5. Apply PVA to wall
6 once PVA is tacky, put backer board on walls with tile adhesive
7. Once dry, reinforce with screws as recommended on board.
I am currently at stage 3 and about to start stage 4. Is this the right way to prep a wall initially as there's loads of dust where the plaster has come off?
The reason I'm doing things this way is because on one side, the plaster is 20mm thick and by tiling back onto the old plaster, I won't be able to have a bi-fold door as the gap will be too narrow.
Any opinions on my methods would be appreciated
