We have just sited a static caravan on our land. What cable do we need to use for the electricity supply (presumably armoured - but what size & ampage?) and how deep do we need to bury it? The caravan is about 20 metres from our property, but our main RCD is at the opposite end of the house (about another 20 metres). Do we need a separate RCD for the caravan? Anyone know where we can find a copy of the relevant regulations on-line?

We will, of course, get everything checked & final connection made by a qualified sparks, but hopefully doing most of the preparation work ourselves will save us a lot of expense.

Or cost you twice as much because the electrician will not certify your work.

Work beside a spark, not in front. Get someone to review the work, agree that you can do the digging, bashing and cable lay (giving him an oppertunity to review your work before back filling the dig) and you will save money AND get the certificate issued.

What you will need to consider centres around the load requirements for the static, the cable route and to a degree the ability of the existing house systems main head to cope with the new and 'extra' load.

Will you have electric heating, cooking and shower in the static ?

Earthing arrangements will also play a part in selecting the correct cable.
