will have to remember this tiup for future!! :)

do all immersion heaters have the live going through the thermostat and another thermostat wire coming out the other end of the thermostat and joining up (pre-joined) to another metal pole?

making slow progress cut out a small trianle but this thing is stuck on caked with jointing paste and the effect ot time I guess. Can now feel the tread collar with single finger (size of cut) ....should I try heat noe to burn off some of adhesive etc? Just don't want to damage the tread or the flat sealing surface.....Thanks to all again widsh me luck!

the thermostat is at the beginning of the circuit, then power into element, out the other end of element to N.

the ones i have seen have 3 connections, obviously L N and EARTH and the Live goes into the thermostat and at the other end another wire comes out and is attached (pre-attatached) to a metal pole. The N and Earth connections are on the heater but do not seem actually connected directly to the thermostat!!

the flat surface shouldn't be to bad as you have a gasket in the middle.

you can try some heat, but then you'll have to wait for it to cool if it don't move.
sounds like you have only cut a small section.
don't matter is you cut it in half it will take the pressure off the thread.

your correct the N will connect to the end of the element which is the end of the curcuit
the E gos to the body incase the live shorts to the body E.

when i had to put one in about a year ago or so, i had to put the live wire in the thermostat side and screw a little screw down to tighten the connection. another connection came out the other side (T) and was already connected. just wondered if they were all like this really! i bought a robimatic one, about £17-18 from B & Q!!

What are you blithering on about?

If the water is contact with the brass boss, and you drill bits of the brass that then fall into the water, then in what way has the water become contaminated?

don't use pfe tape use silicone grease around the boss threads.

softus: :) i was just curious!!
