im going to insulate my cellar ceiling soon,,,ive done one before just using 50mm wool cavity slabs,,,they go up very easily,,,but this time i was thinking of using the ridgid stuff,,,foil backed like celltex or kingspan etc,,,im sure ive heard before the ridgind stuff is twice as good as the wool,,,or maybe someone has a better idea??? any thoughts anyone???

mineral wool. you can stuff it tightly into irregular gaps, and it will block draughts as well as providing insulation. It is very difficult to cut foam slabs to be a perfect fit, so they allow draughts.

wool is also cheaper.

Draughts are a bigger problem through floors than thermal conductivity, so the added insulation provided by the same thickness of slab will not bring much benefit.

That what expanding foam is for.

very tedious to squirt it along every join of a whole floor.

for a floor, wool is easy and cheaper.
