Hi

I renovated most of the house last year and now getting around to finishing off the bits and pieces.

I have refitted spot lights in our en-suite with some ip65 firerated downlight with LEDs. The previous ones, from the previous owners had been covered with insulation which I know is a little naughty.

Anyway, I'm now trying to make the house more efficient so would like to insulate over the top, but the caps I found (see link) are a little over priced in my opinion.

Can I place a piece of wood over the joists with the down lights beneath it (to create a roof for them) and insulated over the top of that?

Cheers

David

As long as you comply with the manufacturers instructions regarding the all round distance from the rear of the lamp unit you can build what you want.
Generally set around 100mm though can be higher.
