Hey All,

I have a old & small terraced country cottage that has thick (42cm) solid natural sandstone walls with no cavity.

I'd like to put in some additional insulation/soundproofing, but have a three way question that I'd appreciate help on.

1. On the party walls and the front/back external wall I am planning to baton out the walls with a timber frame but don't want to lose too much depth so planning on using 50mm batons. What would be the best combo type of insulation/soundproofing to put in the cavity and what depth e.g. 40mm to leave an air gap between the wall and the insulation?

2. There will be some new stud walls that will be standard depth (75mm timbers). What is the right insulation/soundproofing to put in these cavities?

3. Two of the internal walls in the house are slim breeze block. Whats the best to do with these. Baton them out and add insulation or just stick insulated plasterboard/normal plasterboard to each side?

Cheers in advance.
