Insurance Cert' not needed for Tax, and more

The DVLA systems are/were developed by fujitsu services as was the national health service IT shambles so what do you expect! !
It doesn't matter who the contractor is, or how many back handers they have paid...

When it comes to Government IT contracts it is the fault of whichever incumbant continually moving the goalposts that causes the screw ups!

To an extent, but I worked for fujitsu services on the DVLA project, and yep, it was a shambles.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that paper licences will soon have to be replaced with photo ones. When does this come into force?

Will I have t pay for a new licence? What about renewing the plastic licences every 10 years - will I have to pay for these? Also, how would I protect my motorcycle entitlement, as I have heard some have lost theirs when changing from paper tp photo licence?

Don't see why I should pay. My paper licence says it's valid til I'm 70. Why should I pay if they want to change the system?

If you are afraid of losing driving entitlement when changing from paper to photocard, is there any reason why you cannot obtain notarised copies of your old paper licence before sending it off? That way you still have a "legal" copy in the event of error.

Don't forget that the DVLA is, like HRMC, a government department, and is staffed (at least in part) by "Blair's babes" - you know the 250,000 public sector jobs that idiot created as soon as he lied his way into power in 1997. I wonder how many of these posts were filled by the illiterate failures of the comprehensive educational system, who would be completely unemployable in the Private Sector, but obviously vote Layburr.

.

Probably a good idea as I've read about the DVLA refusing to accept a simple photocopy of the license of evidence of previous entitlements.

Still, if any one remembers, the DVLA staff are normally busy emailing each other pornographic images

Thanks to Astra and Julian. I have done a bit more research online, and it appears that you can take your licence to certain post offices to be copied and witnessed by the post master.

Will definitely do this if I have to surrender it to get a photo licence. There are plenty of online cases where people have changed licences and DVLA have left off their motorcycle entitlement. They have then had to spend £100s on training and re-testing.

Of course, the PO charge £7 for licence verification, but worth doing.
