Hi There,
I have Intergas 24/18 boiler and it recently started coming up with error codes 12,13 and was switching itself off. This was suggesting sensor 1 (according to manual) which has been now replaced.
Now though, when the hot water runs for a while and the boiler goes up to program 6 and then drops down to 1 and comes back to 6 again (you can hear the fun working all right all the time) but the boiler is doing some very strange vibrating noise (taking off plane type of noise) which is quite loud and scary. If you close the hot water tap it will stop doing it or if you wait 3-5 seconds it will stop.
It does bother me though as I do not know what's the source of it.
Would appreciate help.
I did open the boiler's cover just to make sure it's the source of the noise and 100% it is the boiler and my thinks it's the vertical plastic pipe (fumes?) that is causing that sound.??

Thanks in advance.

Only an RGI should be opening the boiler casing.

When was it last serviced?

Is the Benchmark Certificate completed?

Ouch - wasn't aware of that :( only RGI can open the case - I did not open anything else - just the plastic front cover - if I wasn't clear...

The boiler was installed in 2010 and had NO maintenance - the guy who installed it just vanished ...
There has been no problems with it before the code 12/ 13 and boiler switching off...

The benchmark certificate has been completed at the time of installation.

Properly installed they have a FIVE year warrantee.

But to keep that valid they need to be serviced every year!

I know, called intergas after the error codes and mine was under 3y warranty. SO I had someone to come and replace sensor but now this sound ...
Shall I be worried or just wait and see if it goes away?
What is the down side of not having maintenance done?
How much would that cost me roughly in London?? Any idea?

Unlikely to go away.

A routine service, ideally during the summer would be about £65 on average. But that's for an ongoing annual service when the boiler has been done the year before! If not serviced ever before then about £85 perhaps.

A repair would be more! I usually suggest £84 as that's the figure used by at least two contributors here.

Its very likely that your noise would have been prevented by annual servicing.

Okay, thanks Tony.
I will search for suitable certified specialist and have the boiler reviewed.
Thanks again.

Showers and baths shouldn't see the boiler go to status 1, and would imply poor heat transfer internally caused by limescale, although that would seem premature on yours as well as indicating ill considered installation.

It also wouldn't normally cause a noise which could be the fan.

Call a professional.

Thanks Dan,
I will need to find someone - The noise is gone surprisingly - not happened again since the first day - almost like one off thing. Happened few times but it's back to normal now.
The boiler does go to 6 then 1 3,4 and 6 again during bath fill up.
It also happened twice that it went to code 11 and boiler off :( (after the S1 has been replaced....)
This is nowhere close to what was before though as every attempt of getting DHW would end up immediately with S1 error (codes 11, 12, 13)
What else could be wrong if still goes to error code 11?

Obviously he thinks the higher the better!

Without realising how a condensing four pipe boiler works and how best to ensure that it scales up !
