have just replaced a ceiling light in kitchen and had to replace the switch as well ( 2 gang 1 way) which also works the under cupboard lights (which work fine). all seemed well BUT the ceiling light goes OFF after after 10 - 15 minutes !! I realise that I might need to get an electrician in BUT I would like to know what the likely problem is before contacting one to sort the problem out.

Is it a bayonet cap or edison screw fitting? Does it come back on by its self?
With the power off, (not just at the switch but at the consumer unit), drop the cover down and check all the wires are tight in the terminals. When replacing the bulb make sure it is contacting the pins in the bayonet cap type or securely screwed in to the edison type. But don't overtighten!

Thanks - it is a 2 -D 4 pin fitting and yes it does come back on its own afetr some time (have not timed it)

Intermittent ceiling light....hmm...it would help us a great deal if you could let us know what it is when it's not being a ceiling light.

I think though, it's a straight-forward case of dual-personality.

Seriously, though, try swapping out the lamp & starter.
