Hi,

Quick question. I have always thought the tap on the left (see photo) is the internal stop-cock and the tap on the right is just for our external water pipe (which is apprx the other side of the wall).

Both taps are usually set to 'open'.

Is this correct or is the one of the right to shut off water coming to the property and the one on the left to stop it being pumped around the house?

thanks,

Logic says the one on the right is the isolating stop cock otherwise some of the flow being used in the property would not get measured

thanks, so both taps have to be off to stop water getting to outlets in the home?
or do we think that one will be for the outdoors pipe only?

Try them and see. The one on the right is the main stopcock and will turn everything off. The one on the left will turn off whatever it is feeding only.

OK thanks - so the one on the right is the 'main' one shutting off everything in the house
