Hello everyone! This thread has absolutely nothing to do with plumbing, but it does involve a pipe of sorts, so i was hoping that you guys might have some useful info
a plastic part on my vacuum cleaner recently shattered. Its a hard sort of cylindrical nozzle at the end of the hose, the part where you hold, and fit attachments onto. It simply crumbled from the shearing strain of being moved with attachments on it
I have glued it back together, and all the pieces are in place, but it doesnt seem like they will withstand that kind of strain again, there is some flexion when i squeeze it. Pictures of nozzle attached, don't worry about the excess glue around the outside, i can scrape or sand that off
I can replace this part for about 20-30 quid, that is always an option, but i prefer repair where possible, and in this case i can see the beginnings of an alternative solution:
If i could place some kind of second, slightly narrower ring or tube inside the nozzle, to reinforce it from the inside, this would serve my purposes perfectly. It needs to withstand compressive forces from the outside. Rigid plastic would be nice, metal would be better. It can't go around the outside because increasing the diameter of the nozzle would make it unable to fit attachments, they all go over the outside of it.
Not entirely sure how i'd attach such a thing, glue would hopefully do the trick, or maybe some very short screws
Is there some kind of cheap part i can buy to fill this need?
Failing that, even if the work wouldn't be economical, please tell me about more expensive parts that might accomplish it anyways, for the sake of curiosity, i love to learn
