Internal Stack Pipe

We've been getting dodgy smells in the house near the downstairs toilet since we moved into the house in the summer (i checked with the girl friend and its not her). At first I thought this was siphonage letting in smells as it only happened when the shower was used, but i've checked this out and i don't think it is.

The bathroom is enclosed within the house as a ground floor extension has been built on the back. i've just located an internal panel which had been wallpapered over and has a pipe behind it which i think is the Stack pipe, thing is the pipe is only about 5ft tall, with a vent/filter type thing on the top. shouldn't this be routed outside?!

So does that means its the stack pipe and it doesnt need to be routed outside, just need a new valve? or should there be a stack pipe?

is the foul system vented to the outside anywhere on the property?

I cant see any prominant pipes on the outside of the property other than the drain pipes. There is a small dome vent on the edge of the roof, but i dont think that is it.

Will one of these valves not be sufficient venting? Its only one bathroom and then the kitchen drainage, all located right next to each other. Looks like they all drain to this one point.

there should be at least 1 vent per property. it's extremely bad practice to not have an external vent. this will need to terminate 900mm above any opening window, if that window is within a metre or so of the s.v.p terminal.

Put a new valve on so far so good. Planning to have another bathroom put in this year so will make sure an external vent is fitted.
