Need to fit a new stop tap in my house are the original style screw down still seen as the best or are lever valves?

Is there a preferred way to fit the lever valve as one side looks like it's not sold has a connector in it

Stopcock can seize up easier and has a washer which may need changed. Good lever valves are full bore and easily operated.
