What devices are available to operate a contactor remotely over the internet, so as to switch on a heater at on irregular times when required?

Thanks

The hazard to consider with remote switching of heaters is the possibilty that the heater has been covered or has otherwise become a fire risk without the remote operator being aware of it.

No more risk than a storage heater switching remotely

Telecom speech dialler for switching over phone line, or their IP Com to operate outputs on their intruder panels. Not worth installing a panel just for that option though.

Google IP RELAY BOARD.

I have changed settings in something similar to this to control various things in a holiday home such as the hot tub.

Also look at Heatmeisers IP room stats, they do a plain 'timeclock/on/off' type as well as stat types, with access via web and iPhone etc.

Looks a bit like this one I think, coupled with a programmable room stat (acting on a contactor) Not sure if there is a hard wired 12v relay terminals on the room stat though?

The elements in storage heaters are surrounded by fire proof insulation and the thermal storage blocks can get extremely hot without being a fire hazard as the external surface of the heater does not get that hot.. Some can be switched on when the heater is covered by clothes or other material ( not recommended ) with very little risk. (*)

But if a fan heater or radiant heater is switched on when covered then a fire is very likely to happen.

(*) A good quality storage heater will stop the release of stored heat if the external surfaces become too hot which reduces but does not eliminate the risk of material covering the heater becoming hot enough to ignite.
