We are with Talk Talk and the internet speed has always been pants, they say my max speed should be upto 11Mbs but the best i have ever seen is 4.6.
i have cat 5 from master box to router and then 2 pc's are connected via cat5, best speed on wifi is about 3.5, but what is getting my goat is we are getting less than half what we are paying for and before i call them does the wiring look correct to you? cos i know they will say we can send openreach round but if no fault it will cost me, pics attached of master front and back and box terminating at router, no filters used as i believe they are in the master which is a 5c Mk4, unfortunately i do not have a lead to check from front of bt box to router, incoming wires are connected = white to a and orange to b.

Not sure what service you are on. 11mbps is pretty pants this day in age, a quick search show some rural areas of Essex get even lower speeds.

Your contract should give you what speeds you should get at certain times of the day.

So what does your contract say you should get.

All the wires show two wires which looks like phone connections.

So I would start with checking your contract.

If your not getting your contracted speeds ask then why you aren’t getting them.

The wiring was done by whom?

Me thinks you have another connection point between images '6406 & '6409.
In '6406 the blue-Bl/Wh pair the white has a continuous blue trace whereas in '6409 the Blue/white pair the Bl/Wh has bands of Blue on the white.
That could be causing your problems.

Diver Fred, the white with blue band is for the phone, the other phone wire in master box was for a phone upstairs which has not been connected for years.
Secureiam, i did the wiring and copied what was there before i put the new master socket in, speed was rubbish before i changed master, reason was to get rid of the unsightly filters.

Just rigged a cable from master test socket to router after spending 90 minutes on the phone to a disinterested tele op in Durban and the speed is the same also disconnected phone at cradle and made no difference, they did a line test which is ok so to me the house wiring is good, noticed today that talk talk are the worst of isp's so now looking at Virgin bb only.

Looks like you have a copper connection and old adsl speeds, thats going back 20 years, ancient. Do you get 5g signal? maybe worth getting a 5g simcard n a 5g router, that will be 10 times faster than what you have got if you cannot get a fibre connection.

Eeee, ADSL was so long ago I can barely remember it lol.

I see that your router is plugged in via an extension socket (not the best to do) and I also see no ADSL filter for the phones?

Anyhoo, as long as the line test is good for voice then as far as they are concerned all is good.
Whilst it may cost you a bit more, see if you can get a fibre connection (assuming your not out in the sticks) which will drastically improve the T'internet access for you.

Londoner, We have fttc which is 400 odd yards away regarding fibre Openreach have been pulling a lot cables and locally over the last few months although the street is cabled up for Virgin whom i will look at again.
Mattylad, i believe the master has a filter in it hence the reason for changing it and the none existent speed increase.
