Hi all :) i have just purchased a 150 w inverter, i was wanting it to run the mrs hair straightners whilst camping so i would have peace and quiet lol but it wont run ! the straightners are only 35 w would be glad of any advice, thanks in advance :D

sounds like you have a pair of GHD's (i did notice my wifes were rated 35w, because Im sad and read the rating plates on random things).

GHD's constantly measure the temperature and pulse the power through them to keep at their perfect temperature (210C if i recall), many seemingly less powerful straighteners use more power so I have always suspected that the 35w is an average and it pulses at a higher power (but that may or may not be right). also: because the ghds are pulsing they may well rely on the mains been as they expect to see it, ie sinusoidal (a smooth 'perfect' wave) but most inverters aren't 'tru sine' (unless you pay more) so i suspect this is the biggest problem.

Thanks for the speedy reply sm1thson
And thanks for the info, looks like i`ll have to put up with her curls ! just hope she doesn`t break into "chain reaction"
Thanks again bro  Oh btw ! what about different hair straighteners ?
or are they all the same ? with re: to pulsing ??

Not being an expert on the issue (what? Honest!) but I imagine the cheapest set of straighteners you can buy will be the best to try and run off a modified sine inverter.
