No doesn't need to go into hardware. Does anyone have one? what do you use it for, looks like a toy to me.

Its a better computer than your mobile, worse than a laptop, it depends how you are going to use it, how likely you are to carry it around.

Basically if you are going to stay in the office/home, get a desktop computer, if you want to carry something aroung, you are better with a laptop.

To be honest it does seem to more of a fashion thing than anything else.

Anything that is an I-gadget, it maybe "cooler" than its competitors but there is better stuff out there.

Tablets do have their uses, going on holiday for example when you aren't going to be do any serious computing and just want something to get on the Net.

Sometimes your smartphone is good enough.

If you want a tablet the top two choices are something like an ipad and something like a Samsung Galaxy. The Mrs has an Ipad because it's cool and trendy and very very user friendly. I have a Samsung galaxy because I can do what I want with it without Apple having to give permission.

She uses hers more than I use mine, I prefer a proper keyboard to get the quick answer into places like this before some of the other hooligans. A tablet keyboard just doesn't have the same effect.

To be honest I don't use mine a lot, prefer to carry a laptop around. On a train now and using a laptop even though it's heavier. If I'm on hols travelling light then its the tablet every day.

But if you get into them they are a very lightweight way of carrying a 10 inch screen around with you.

I've asked the same question to everyone i know who has one, not one of them has answered, other than 'we view holiday snaps on it', can you ring me on it, 'ermmm, want to see some photos', can you write a letter and print it out for me, 'ermmm, did i mention our holiday snaps'

The most expensive chopping board known to man!

i see no use for them other than toys for mucking about on, not a serious bit of kit.

Multi-functional device that does lots of things averagely.

my son uses one all the time when he is out and about checking and sending emails, he is a web designer so instant access to the tinternet is very important to him as that is his line of business, he uses a £3k macbook when he is working, haha ive bought loads of cars for £3k and as he says its a work tool, and he wouldnt pay £30 for a hammer
the younger 2 who are 11 have told their big brother thats what they want for Christmas, (an ipad, not a £30 hammer) he will probably buy them one

Can be useful in wi-fi area and also I was repairing an old lock, took the photo via the iPad and show it to the locksmith which is easier to look at with the bigger screen than the small camera etc
At the moment I'm recovering from an operation so having sleeping problem but using the iPad in bed instead of getting up and switching the pc on which can be a bit noisy !

I also think it's good for learning how to use it as we are moving into the next century because they have already started doing the TV touchscreen like the iPad!

Having a touchscreen is something you don't really find on laptops yet. Bought a tablet for my mother who has had a stroke and cannot communicate via talking or writing. Put together a web site which has pictures of cups of tea, bacon sarnies, toilets, shops etc on it, She can touch the screen and work her way through to tell us what she wants.

She loves it as she can communicate, albeit rather crudely. Screen gets very messy mind with all that bacon fat. Was going to take the picture of a hoover off so she cannot constantly tell me to vacuum the place but thought if that's what she wants then that's what she deserves.

well i see your point, but very expensive for a camera!! touchscreen tv's well i have no doubt, but sort of flys in the face of having a remote control!

I think I shall maintain my grumpy old man attitude, that they are a beautifully designed, well built piece of frippery.

but thats a brilliant thing to use the technology for, such a simple thing that we all take for granted but very important thing for her
