My son wants to plug his iPhone 13 into my car stereo, it has an aux adapter that pretends to be a cd changer which works fine with my phone with a 3.5mm to usbC adapter:

We bought this from home bargains but it doesn't work - I know my adapter needed to include a DAC to work with my particular phone and I suspect that this one doesn't contain one - but then what use is it given that it only fits iPhone?

I have an Iphone 13, the 13 lacks a socket to plug a wired earphone in, but most would now want to use a bluetooth connection for that. The adaptor you have there, will be simple audio, to enable a wired earphone, mic to be plugged in. It's not a digital output.

Does car not have blue tooth or usb connection ? My 11year old Volvo has both .As well as 3.5mm socket.

You and your modern cars.

15 year old base model VW - I had to replace the head unit from a slightly higher spec model to even get something I could connect a 3.5mm adaptor to (a little box that pretends to be an external CD unit).

So this is what's on the car - I suspect the iPhone has a digital audio output from the lightning port and my thing needs an analog input.

My wife and I both have android phones and the white cable pictured works but it apparently has a DAC.

Return it and buy a better product

I’ve got one of these and it works a treat

Nearly got that one but it's usb C for the newer iPhones.

We needed something from a real shop as we're in Scotland for a week and the Son in on a week's insurance with his P plates. Anyway he's sorted it by using his portable speaker thing so I'll return that and get a better one - did think it took good to be true for £2, and also wondered if it's the original Pifco or they've sold the name to the Chinese not that many will remember it these days.

You can get apple headphones that plug into the charging port
