There’s no “attempt” about it, the US and Isreal have, and continue to have, numerous and continuing opportunities to wipe Irann off the map.

I suspect there is a lot of US intelligence and weaponry involved here -America / Trump does not want to be openly involved but theyalso do not want Iran having nukes, and Israel are desperate to halt the mad mullers. - Proxy War ?
The main nuclear facility is below a mountain and whilst the Israelis are capable of doing a fair amount of damage, to destroy it they need the 30,000 pound bunker busting bomb and the Americans won't let them play with that, yet.
edit: The Israelis probably haven't got the capability of dropping the bunker bomb, might need to be American B2's.

but would you agree that this (entirely justified) strike by Israel has been done with the express permission of Trump? I think the US want this even if they try to distance themselves from it
Permission, yes. Approval, not clear yet.
Agreed, the 'talks' were going nowhere so Trump gave the go ahead.
On the face of it. It might turn out to be more complex.

Sure.
They only supply loads of bombs, they don't drop them.
They only supply detailed satellite-derived information.
They told the non-arab world there was an attack coming, when the markets (followed by me) took action a couple of days ago.
Last time, the US with ships moved close by was helping with defence of Israel.
The US aren't involved in the attack in any way whatsoever. of course not.

If I were Bibi I'd see my ducks in a row right now, and I would take this next obvious step.
As a handy side effect, the opposition parties in Israel support on this , so there's some domestic fuss calmed down.

Why is it such a big deal if Iran does get a nuke?
