Netanyahu had been pushing for an attack on Iraq for years before 9/11.
Saddam Hussein had been sending money to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers as well as other support for the Palestinians.
Netanyahu has admitted that 9/11 was good for Israel because it created an opportunity to take out another thorn in Israels side.
The American public don't really know the difference between one Arab or another, so they were easily propagandised into directing their anger into attacking Iraq.
The pro Israel Neocon faction In the Bush government took full advantage of public ignorance of the Middle East to advance their own agenda.
As we now know, Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11, the Neocons knew this as well but it was a golden opportunity which was too good to miss to take down another opponent of Israel.

The only point I would take issue with there is that the neocons also had a wider agenda. It wasn't purely about supporting Israel. Also, it is scary to think that, on the eve of the Iraq War, a large majority of Americans had been brainwashed into believing Saddam was behind 9/11.

Nobody was under that assumption, Everyone knew it was Bin Laden behind 9/11. They openly boasted over it. Saddam was accused at having Weapons of mass destruction, which he never had. It was all a lie.
