Emloyers are represented by the ECA (Electrical Contractors Association) and would you believe the AEC (Association of Electrical Contractors).
A third group not in the talks (the NECI) (National Electrical Contractors of Ireland) are in protest about NOT being in the talks.

Anyway to cut a long story short the electricians represented by TEEU (Technical Engineering and Electrical Union) are demanding an 11.3% pay hike which would see their hourly rate increase from 21.49 euro to 23.98 euro.
Employers are seeking a 10 percent paycut.

To quote the Irish mail.....
Last night there was some hope of a breakthrough. But earlier, Mr Devoy had warned: An all-out picket by construction industry unions will be in place by the end of next week if the dispute is not resolved at the LRC.
(Labour Relations Commission)

Anyway apologies if this has already been discussed. Just thought you guys might find it interesting.

This sort of dispute is not uncommon in Irish history. The unions are VERY strong at home. Unfortunately the TIGER has had such a good run that now it has gone pop everyone is in the sh1te.

ALL public servants at home have been given a £200 a month tax sting and many are out of work.

The present egit in charge at the Dail is not helping either, a general election really won't be far off, especially if they reject the treaty in August for the second time.

It makes for great reading thou, can you imagine if demands like that were to start here!!!!!!

It makes for great reading thou

It does indeed.
At 21.49 euro per hour I now understand why they can pack up and leave site at 4.00 pm.
It will boil down to "take a pay cut" or "take a hike" IMO because the work is just not out there.
I don't know about other areas but it's survival of the fittest here at the moment.
