Iron to plastic pipes

How do I connect an old iron mains supply pipe to a new plastic(?) pipe, which then needs an internal stop-tap before connecting to copper pipe!?

(my supply pipe has a leak right outside my house and needs re-routing into a new extension anyway),

I have used compression fittings on iron pipe on many occasions but it depends on the size you have.
22mm might do the trick

One of these in an iron fitting http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?cId=101312&ts=22732&id=14858 and then mdpe into the house.

If the mains is leaking it's safe bet the pipe has had it's day, I think you should replace as much as posible preferably back to the stopcock.
