Our fascias and soffits need re-staining as its down to bare wood in places, so would you recommend removing the plastic gutters to do this? The house is 30 years old and some of the gutter joints have been re-sealed?
if you have plastic gutters, and plenty of clips in good condition, it is the work of but a moment to take them off and clip them back. You might consider working your way along the eaves, removing only enough gutter each time to wield your paintbrush. If you have to leave a section open overnight, you might be able to put a corner on to help the water gush away from the wall. It's easier with a scaffold tower than a ladder.
If the supports have gone brittle with age, this is a good time to replace them. Stainless screws are quite cheap now, and will make the job easier next time.
