sounds like you've given him the ump. as if you get it he can't make abit out of you.
some won't fit parts that are refurbs as they can be a pain in the backside
but others will and just not guarentee it.
Similar sort of reliability to Vista... Seen these suckers open the gas valve despite the fan not being proven.... Not one of Worcesters best. £300 is a bit tall, but I can understand his reasoning for not wanting to fit second hand (Refurbed) boards
I'm sure that one of the RGI's will tell me if I'm wrong but IMO...
He is telling you a load of BS, the PCB is not illegal neither is it illegal for him to fit it. (it is for you to do so though).
The fact of the matter is that he wants it to be a brand new pcb both for his warranty & for how much work he has to do & the profit in the job.
While a 2nd hand board may well work the only way that he can ensure that it operates correctly is to do a load of testing of all the inputs/outputs to ensure that its working properly. this will take him quite a lot longer than fitting guaranteed working board.
Remember that some of the connections on it may be from safety devices or to control safety devices. So for him to fit it, he's going to do all this work & have to charge you for his time doing that.
Perhaps ask him what amount from the £300 is for the replacement board.
Remember that if you have a problem afterwards he can easily say its your cheap board thats at fault, but not so if he has provided the part.
(Me I'd fix the board & test it myself, but then I can do that because its my job)
