is it possible to wire 8 lamp holders into a single plug? If so how would I do it?

What sort of plug are we talking?

A 13 amp plug?

If so, the immediate answer is NO.

I have misinterpreted your original post.

I have took that you mean each lampholder has a seperate cable, and so all eight cables go back to the plug.

Of course, thinking about it, you probably meant wiring the the lampholders in a 'chain' - so only one cable at the plug.

Sorry for the total confusion I've probably caused.

Something like this?

You need to wire them in parallel. It is explained in the WIKI

I'm attempting to make a Hollywood style mirror for my girlfriend I'll show you a picture to explain what I mean, I'd just need to know the easiest way to wire the lights up, they cost near on 200 to buy so thought I could make it cheaper myself

watch out for colour temperature of the lights. The change over to LED lights for theatre makeup mirrors led to some interesting looks under tungsten.
