Rewire a ceiling lamp holder to rose

Hi, I have a standard 2 way ceiling rose but I would like to change to lamp holder.

In order to do this I need to put a new wire from the ceiling rose to the lamp holder.

The connecting wire is currently only a live and neutral, however the new wire also has an earth.

Can this be connected to the earth connection in the ceiling rose?

The new lamp holder has an earth terminal.

Also the lamp holder doesn't state which terminal should be live/neutral, does it matter?

Yes - on the assumption that the ceiling rose earth is itself connected to the main earth.

Also the lamp holder doesn't state which terminal should be live/neutral, does it matter?

Not if it doesn't specifically state one or the other.
For bayonet fittings the connection doesn't matter - for the Edison screw in type it does on some and not on the others.
