Is my immersion element knackered?

Hey all...

I have a HW tank that's normally served by a solid fuel boiler. The tank was second-hand and happened to come with a dual-element immersion fitted, but I've never used it.

Today I finally got around to investigating the immersion with a view to maybe getting it working, however in testing I've noticed that the elements seem to have continuity with the body of the tank, the pipework, etc.

Before I give up, I just want to check: Am I right in thinking the element is knackered??

Your element is shorting out, you need to fit a new one. Or as you are going to have to drain the cylinder, replace both.

Thought as much... and yeah a new cylinder wouldn't hurt either.
