Is my Kitchen work notifiable?

Hi all,

I'm not going to pretend to know much about electrics which is why I have a local electrician in tomorrow to do some work ready for my new kitchen. So please go easy if I'm talking rubbish.

Starting with the cooker I already ran a 6mm T&E from the existing switch location to near the cooker location as I had some plastering done. This is the only thing I have done. He is replacing the cooker switch with a new one (incorporating a socket). He is then spurring off an existing socket (on a ring) for the gas hob sparker and extractor.

He is also spurring off another place on the ring for a socket for a dishwasher and also for under cab lights. He also mentioned a cable will run along the top of cabinets for other under cab locations.

Question is? Should he notify someone about these changes? Is it the LBC? Is there some documentation he should show me prior to doing this?
Does his proposed install sound OK?
Anything else I should ask for etc to protect myself ?

ALL electrical work in a kitchen is notifiable except for replacing like for like (eg cooker change) or repairs (eg broken socket).

Check your electrician is with one of the registered schemes (you should find him on www.competentperson.co.uk). He can then do the work and will notify the scheme he is registered with. The scheme provider then notifies your local authority that the work has been done in compliance with Building Regulations Part P. You will get a completion cert to give to the person who buys your house. Paperwork about electrical work is now being asked for by buyers solicitors.

From your description he must also provide you with a minor works certificate for each circuit that he has worked on. this confirms that the work he has done complies with BS7671 and reacords the test results. It will also record any other observations .
