Is replacing a Bath with a Shower a good idea?

Size of bathroom can be compromised by a door which opens into the bathroom. What would you be able to do with the extra space if a door no longer had an arc of 3 feet each time it was opened.
Other possibility - keep the bath and simply fit a "gravity" shower - rubber bits onto taps & a shower curtain. (No drilling needed since most poles have springs and stay up by tension between 2 walls.
