Asbestos cannot be identified by appearance .
The best way to tell is to rub a small piece across your teeth - try it and let us know how you got on.
It looks like chipboard to me ?
He's been i n the property for over 40 years and was there when he moved in.
Grey chipboard? With the colour , dimpled marking and loose fibres more likely cement board.
This is an old house guess 1900, was part of a cupboard side. this is around 6mm thick. when you bend it in half doesn't seem too hard and will just break without making a mess
