looking through manual look like it is not suitable,
need to fit fire tommorrow so need to tell customer if he needs to replace pot

Not suitable. Suggest that customer will need to change pot before you fit fire otherwise it won't get done and you may well be stuffed for fitting fire with incorrect termination.

Thanks for reply customer will not be happy , has allready asked to fit fire then he will get pot changed

Are you guys sure that it's unsuitable? I can't see one like it on my pics of unsuitable terminals. In general layout it looks like it should be OK.

Corgi manuals, British Standards .... where else? As I understand it the critical point is that the diameter of the top opening should not be less than 175mm. From the pic posted I'd say that might be OK.

I bow to your better knowledge there Chris but IMO checking in both my CORGI & Viper books the type of pot as shown is not considered suitable for most gas burning appliances (Page 206; 3rd Edition ( )CORGI Essential Gas Safety and Page E-20 Viper Domestic Nat Gas Handbook)

Still, 'tis up to Corgigazza - he's the end of the line.

The terminal to which you refer is generally known as a standale and is classified as "unsuitable"

Well I haven't got the Viper books but my 3rd edition - revised 8) (figure 85, page 140) doesn't show a terminal like that one. Although the Corgi manual shows "unsuitable" terminals, the BS (5871-3 2005) says -

Any chimney pot used shall have no dimension across the axis of its outlet, or outlets, less than 175 mm. There are in existence many types of chimney pots...In cases where an installation is being carried out in an existing property the installer may be unable to gain easy access to the chimney stack to check outlet opening sizes. In such cases Figure 4 will enable the installer to identify some of those terminations which are... very likely to be unsuitable [i.e. chimney pots as shown in Figure 4(a)] and which should be removed or investigated further.

So even if the terminal shown was identified as unsuitable, it would only need to be "investigated further" to ensure that its opening was at least 175mm diameter to become acceptable. At least that's how I understand it.

OK, here's a bit of real world stuff. This is the type of chimney pot, known as Venetian, that is identified as unsuitable in the BS and manuals. The opening at the top of constricted and presumably is less than 175mm diameter. But the chimney pot referred to by the OP is clearly different, known as a Louvre.
