Is this damp???

So we have this mark that was hidden behind some built in shelving that the previous owners had. It looks like a discolouration and it's patchy and darker than the rest of the wall... I can't quite tell if it's damp or mould though. It's been the same size ever since we moved in 5 months ago. Any expert eyes able to glance over this please?
