I have a 3.3m x 3.3m area of my loft that I want to raise up so that I can add 200mm insulation over the existing joists, and then board on top for storage.
Existing joists are 300mm apart. It's a 1950s bungalow. I am considering buying 6 x 3.6m lengths of 200x47mm timber and lay them across the existing joists at 600mm apart, then filling in between with insulation.
Then boarding on top with 2400x600x22mm chipboard, so they go across the newly raised joists.
Does this sound ok? Trying to keep costs down, have looked at loft legs and storefloor but they seem more expensive.
Would I need to worry about the combined weight of the 200mm tall cross-joists, 22mm boarding, and what is stored up there (which will be just usual family storage stuff, nothing specifically heavy)?
Thanks
