Is this practical?

Hello!

I have a radiant gas fire and a cotswold stone surround. The current fire is fed from a restrictor elbow in the surround but the pipe is exposed. Pic below!

I would like to get a new inset fire, and have the gas pipe concealed.

I am hoping that an installer would be able to unscrew the restrictor elbow and the (what I think is an) extention piece, and fit an elbow isolation valve directly onto that nut. Is it likely to be a 1/4" BSP or similar?

I could then drill through the surround into the fireplace, sleeve with 15mm copper and the installer could run the pipe through and into the fire. Does that sound practical? I don't want to be taking the surround apart, especially as the back of the surround looks like asbestos board.

Thanks
