Ok fair point. But any work on a lighting circuit, would not require a warrant, in any type of domestic building.

p.s. yes i have just looked that up.

Glad it isn't a problem - it really is safer now than before ...

It was old black and red cable - so in the end I decided it was better to replace it all with new (blue and brown) cable - thought it was better not to have a mix (althought the feed in is black and red)..I do have the mixed colours sign on my CU

I still don't have an earth though...didn't bother testing the feed - worked out I'd have to shorten it quite a bit to connect the earth and didn't have enough length to do that and really didn't want to get into replacing another length of cable...

I got 1.5mm twin & earth cable so made the cables slightly (couple of inches) longer than absolutely nec - thinking when I have a full rewire and (I'm assuming) the lighting circuits will be earth they might be able to just adapt what is there...
probably not though...
