seem to be getting a what sounds like a whistling noise from under the bonnet at around 22500 revs. also turbo doesnt seem as power full as before. van ticks over perfectly and will still get up to 70mph plus if wanted, maybe a bit slower. just wondering what or where the noise could be coming from. done a very quick visual check off hoses going to and from turbo ect. service my van regular any pointers help would be appreciated regards david

Hi it's either a split hose or a loose hose clip, have had exactly the same
on Escort TD, check again, i am sure you will find it.

im hoping its something along those lines praying its not the turbo thats the last thing i need right now

I'd say you have a hole somewhere in the inlet system after the turbo and before the engine, could even be in the inter cooler radiator?

well had a good look today and think it might be the tee section on the big rubber hose that goes to the turbo got some plastic weld for now to see if it is that will try tomorrow and if it is then i will replace it fingers crossed

think you could be right fixed up the tee section to no avail but noticed a oily patch on the inter cooler so need to take it off and get it pressure tested?

22500 revs? so you drive a jetcar????!!!!!

Seriously, inlet manifold to block issue. Spray some wd40 around the area, when the engine is running, and see if the engine tone changes. Or spray some oil on the joints, and see if blue smoke is emitted.

Why is etc, always expressed as ect?

update after problem getting considerable worse since i last posted i stripped down the inter cooler today and done a pressure test on it, no leaks so gave it a good clean out with turbs, the hose going from the inter cooler going to the engine opposite side to turbo had a split in it about a inch and a half gash, carried out a temporary repair with special glue and gaffer tape rebuilt and left it for several hours. Had a call out so had to use van and all is good again :D power back to normal did smoke for a bit, but im putting that down to turbo cleaning it self. at least it wasnt a expensive repair.

You are putting the fault down to the turbo cleaning itself, even though you found a massive rip in a hose? I hope you will replace the hose immediately, as any fault could break the turbo. Cleaning out the radiator that cools the turbo (intercooler), isn't the fix, a split hose that now contains contaminents is/was.

The smoke you see is probably from the crankcase breather system - its curious just how oily the intercooler and rubber pipes get.
These hoses are under considerable pressure, and its a good move to track down a new one soon.
Anyway, well done you!
John :)

No tape/glue will permanently repair your turbo pipe. Its under to much pressure from the turbo and stress (vibration) from the engine.

Probably a funny shape and the dealer wants an arm and a leg for one?

Try your nearest breaker he might be able to help?

But you wont have any power with a hole in the pipe between the turbo and engine.

Just wasting diesel

what ive done it a temporary fix, i bodged it up to make sure the pipe was at fault which it was, i can not order a new hose to Monday which of course i will do. as for cleaning out the inter cooler well no harm done is there
