Iveco tipper key

A mate of mine has an 07 plate Iveco Daily tipper - he bought it with only one (damaged) key.
The local Iveco agent can supply a key (£170) but requires 'code numbers' which we obviously don't have. The original vehicle supplier isn't in business anymore.
Iveco reckon they can get the numbers for £400 which is an absolute joke.
Can anyone enlighten me, or suggest what to do next? Cheers!

Can you take the old key to a locksmith and get a new one cut? Pop the black "chip" out of the old one and into the new key.

Which one have you got?

Thanks for the reply - I'm trying to sort this one from a distance!
What you suggest sounds logical enough, and I'm wondering why Iveco didn't suggest this anyway......all I know is that the key is worn, works the central locking by plip and presumably has a transponder in it too.
The guy is off to a locksmith tomorrow so we'll see what transpires.
