Ask them. they have been happy to maintain the balance of power since WW2 and act as a deterrent to that thing called communist russsia. Just imagine if the US hadn't helped us in two world wars, fascism would now dominate Europe, Russsian's would be slaves, and the US next on the list aided and abetted by Germany's nuclear weapons.

It makes a difference to all of us in the here and now? We put more into Nato defence spending than many other European countries but they all expect the US to save the day if the shoite hit the fan. The US has warned them before; cough up or don't expect us to cover your asses. They remain mostly up their own backsides.

I'm not getting into Putin, it's beyond my scope if I am honest. The US did not like Russia supplying Europe with oil and gas and all hell has broken loose as a result, is about as much as I grasp. All else is muddied waters.

I thought it was Assad who carried out the chemical weapon attacks on his own people?

I have just been reading in the Telegraph that Vance turned down a meeting with the German Chancellor and decided to meet with the head of the far right instead!

And then this, also from the Telegraph:

Olaf Scholz, the German chancellor, also rebuffed Mr Vance’s remarks as highly unusual, adding that Germany had a firewall against extreme right-wing parties for a good reason, citing its National Socialist past.
