Jaguar Land-rover

Yes pure envy. I thought as much. You are just one of life’s losers. Sorry about that. You think 5k is expensive to run a luxury car. OMG. Do you get around on a push bike or something.
Go on... I'm dying to know. What exactly do you spend £5k on? Tyres perhaps £1000, servicing £1000. Both mug prices at the main dealer obviously. Where did the other £3k go?

Today I looked at my shiny BMW and just thought to myself. All of the poor people who who look on in envy would love one of these. Am I just lucky or do I work hard. I then thought how lucky I am.

When I bought our Evoque, I made sure I got one with the tried and tested bullet proof SD4 engines and a six speed auto box. Never had anything major go wrong with it during our ownership.
So you recognise some of the LR issues.

Referred to in trade locally as BOATS. Every time they come in we advise the owners to Break Out Another Thousand.

Terrible, unreliable, fragile, with overly complicated electronics done on the cheap. Very little room inside them for their size, and drive and steer like ocean tankers.

Status symbols, nothing else.

This can’t be right. Ivor windybottom says they only cost £1000 per year servicing.

5K in a year on 1 is easy, maybe not while its under warranty, but still achievable.

Why though, would be my question.

I can’t do it myself is the simple answer. I am very happy as a mate of mine spent over 13k on his. Great to drive when they are fixed. Look nice and nothing beats the style. I even preferred mine to my BMW I have now.

If you've got it, flaunt it, I say.
Quite right. ;)

Not surprised. Expensive things
. Great to drive when they are fixed.
Disagree, strongly.

Disagree, strongly. Have you seen the new ones? Don't tell me that's what you've been mugged for
I even preferred mine to my BMW I have now.
Close call, neither are in my "wanted" pile. But I think I'd put the BMW in front of LR

I just bought a bottle of oil for my car's next oil change. Decent stuff, Castrol Magnatec with all the right approval codes. £30. Then another £5 for a filter. Then about £60 for the local garage to do the job. Call it £100.

With most cars, every other year this will be the full extent of your "service". Otherwise it needs a few other filters, perhaps a belt now and then. Surely premium brand dealers are charging mug prices because they think their customers have money and are daft enough to part with it. Or perhaps the wipe over with a sponge and an air freshener costs the remaining £900?

Worried? Just amused. I find people-watching interesting. Some wear their insecurities on their very expensive sleeves, and actually think others are impressed.

But also dismayed that simple people get sucked into handing vast amounts of money over for magic beans.

Fair dinkum

There’s the bloke who says they will never buy a new car because of depreciation and spends 20k on an E Class with 100k on the clock. Is it really because he can’t afford a new merc?

Good for you. I am happy at that and not in the least envious, you on the other hand.
