Screwfix sell the JG speedfit pipe inserts with the rubber o-ring washer on the end.

Toolstation sell the plain ones - no o-ring

Are they used for different applications? I'm guessing the one with extra o-ring is the better as it's another seal?

Only need about 10, screwfix only sell in packs of 50's, but if the screwfix ones are better I will buy them. Are both ok to use in compression joints as well?

I think that the inserts should only be used with their own brand of pipe. Some pipes have slightly different internal diameters.

The inserts are OK to use in compression fittings.

The seal is on the outside of the pipe and I dont know why they put those rings on some inserts as I dont see that they can have any sealing function.

Both are JG Speedfit inserts. Done some digging and it appears the o-ring inserts are called masterseal. The non-o-ring are standard are to be used with compression fittings.
